When you put something sweet in your mouth; i.e. not fats, or protein, then that increases the insulin hormone. When you’re looking to burn fat, you want to minimize the increase of insulin and one of the ways to do that is to decrease carbohydrate intake. In nutrition when we remove something, we add something else to replace it.
This helps with compliance, otherwise just removing foods without replacing becomes too restrictive. Therefore, as a consequence we generally want to increase proteins, fats and vegetables. Most people don’t eat enough vegetables. Some experts recommend 8-10 portions of vegetables and fruits per day for optimal health. So, if you’re not eating fruits then up your veggies to 8-10 portions.
Before she came to see me, Erin didn’t eat enough veggies and she was a vegetarian!
«I decided to consult a trainer because a year ago I did not feel well, I was unhappy about my self-perception and I wanted to be more active. I needed a coach who could work with me; in terms of physical health, of course, as well as nutrition. At that time, I was a vegetarian and my diet was low in protein and vegetables; I ate too many carbs and soy products.
Once I started my training, in less than 12 weeks I saw impressive results. I saw my body change so quickly. This amazing success is due to my hard work and determination (2 sessions a week with my coach, and 2 to 3 sessions by myself) and a new lifestyle. I’m now aware of how I should eat, and I realize how easy it is to live without the things I eliminated (such as gluten and dairy products).
Training regularly and eating well have become habits I love, I couldn’t live without them. Through this coaching, I learned a lot about my body and nutrition, as well as about myself. I definitely recommend the Elite Coaching method for everyone, beginner or advanced, who has serious goals and wants to reach them. You’ll be more than satisfied. Thanks to Elite Coaching, I’m in the best shape of my life! »

But I prefer to eat fruits rather than veggies!
Ok, take a good look in the mirror!

Fruits contain a sugar called fructose. Fructose is primarily metabolized by the liver. The liver has a limited capacity as to how much fructose it can metabolize. So, if you are not yet lean – eating more fruit than what your body can metabolize will not help your fat loss process because your body will turn those sugars to body fat. Veggies have less carbs in general but are high in nutrients and fiber which are both very important for fat loss.
But I need my carbs…
Uhh actually you don’t. Carbs are not essential for life. However, you cannot live without fats and proteins. I call these the non-negotiables. An extreme example are Eskimos or Innuits. They historically thrived on fatty fish and seafood containing lots of Omega-3s. Fatty fish live in cold water. Their fat contain high amounts of omega-3 as it is fat that keeps them warm.
